Aloha! Welcome to my stop on Mister Domestic‘s Aura Blog Party.

When Mathew asked me if I’d like to join the party, I didn’t hesitate saying “YES!” If you’ve been following me you know:
1. I’m a big fan of Mathew and everything he does.
2. I’m obsessed with all things Hawaii. You can read a bit about my obsession and how Hawaii has influenced my work here and here.

Island memories from an adventure to Hawaii with his daughter, Helena, guided Matthew’s creation of Aura, his second collection with Art Gallery Fabrics.

As soon as I saw Aura, I knew I wanted to pair it with my new Typecast Alphabet EPP pattern and spell out ALOHA. I selected five prints that were all around the same value and would provide a high contrast with a crisp white background (Art Gallery Pure Solids—Snow). I really wanted the letters to stand out.

From there, it was time to dig in! No better place to start than with an “A”.

I had a lot of fun working with the prints and seeing the letters come to life. It’s not too often that I work with bold prints.

I had so much with Aura and Typecast, I kept going!

All of the prints and colorways in Aura play so well with each other, so I decided to make another mini quilt, combining them in an EPP heart that I designed. I then whipped up some more letters from Typecast. This time, I paired the Aura prints with Art Gallery Pure Solids—Night Sea. Aura even makes for a great scrappy binding!
