This month we “travel to” a symbol of freedom and democracy here in the United States, the Statue of Liberty.

A little bit about Lady Liberty…
The Statue was a given to the United States from France in 1886 to celebrate the friendship between the two countries during the American Revolution. This national monument  resides on Ellis Island, which is under the care of the National Parks Service. Head on over to the official Statue of Liberty page to discover more about this beautiful sculpture.

Here’s a fun fact: In order to get the Statue of Liberty to the US, it was broken down into 350 pieces and packed in 214 crates.

This month’s destination, New York City, is close to my heart. Not only do I live close to the city, but my family is originally from here and Jason and I got married in Manhattan.

  1. In 1966 I traveled to Wales, United Kingdom, to meet my extended family. I began that journey by traveling by train to NYC and while there visited the Statue of Liberty and climbed the stairs up into her crown for a spectacular view of New York. Years later I visited Paris and saw the smaller version of the statue that was just sent to the US to honor our Independence Day this year.

    1. Hi Maureen— Thank you for sharing your wonderful memories! I’m so happy to hear that this quilt block reminded you of your trips. Be well, Sheri
