Tucked in Brookfield, Connecticut (just north of Danbury, minutes away from I-84, and close to the NY State Border), Cotton Candy Fabrics & Quilts has been my go-to local quilt shop for years. Erin, the owner, and her staff just celebrated their fifth anniversary (and their first birthday in their new spacious location at 450 Federal Road, Brookfield, CT). During a recent visit, I took some photos of their beautiful shop, let’s go on a tour!
A Quilter’s Oasis: Modern Fabric Options Galore
As you step through the door of Cotton Candy Fabric, you are instantly in a whimsical world of color and charm. The space welcomes you with an expansive and airy feel, thanks to its spacious layout and tall ceilings.
Cotton Candy Fabrics is not just a shop; it’s a local quilting hub that hosts an extensive collection of modern and contemporary fabrics. From geometrics to playful prints to solids & blenders, the shelves offer an array of choices for quilters and sewists looking for lots of options for their projects.
I’m honored that Cotton Candy Fabrics stocks many of my quilt patterns and hand embroidery kits!
The walls are adorned with a showcase of quilts and apparel — a gallery of inspiration for quilters and sewists at every skill level.
Options for every quilter
The main reason for my latest visit to Cotton Candy Fabrics was give an in-person preview of my Greenhouse Garden 2024 Block of the Month and Quilt Sew Along. I was on hand to share my quilt samples, answer questions, and chat all about quilting. This marks the fourth year of collaboration, with Cotton Candy Fabrics. Erin has been kitting my Blocks of the Month from the very beginning. In addition to offering fabric collections that I recommend, this year Cotton Candy is also offering a custom batik kit option. This fabric option was requested by a customer and reflects the shop’s commitment to providing choices for every quilter.
Beyond Fabric…
As a proud Bernina retailer and authorized Handi Quilter dealer, Cotton Candy Fabrics provides sales, service, and lessons on Bernina and Handi Quilter machines.
The shop also offers quilt finishing services, repairs, custom quilts, and personalized t-shirt and memory quilts.
More Than Just a Store
Erin is committed to having the store be more than just a retail space – it’s a welcoming haven and a community hub for fabric enthusiasts. The commitment to fostering a cozy gathering space is evident in the thoughtful details that go beyond the bolts of fabric. Multiple public restrooms and a refreshment area/coffee bar elevates the shopping experience, allowing you to take your time to linger and browse. Ample parking adds to the accessibility. Stepping into Cotton Candy Fabric feels like spending time in a close friend’s sewing space.
The commitment to nurturing a vibrant community of makers goes beyond the retail floor and amenities. Offering a diverse array of sewing and quilting classes, from open sew sessions to apparel crafting and an extensive range of quilting and technique classes, there’s something for every skill level and interest in the classroom.
Having had the privilege of teaching several classes and at Cotton Candy Fabrics, I’ve witnessed firsthand quilters forming friendships, sharing laughs, and gaining valuable skills.
I’m also eagerly anticipating my first time as a student at the shop. I’ll be taking a workshop in the new year, learning how to make my own quilted sneakers.
In-Store and Online Options
For those unable to visit the shop in person, Cotton Candy Fabrics offers the convenience of fast shipping from their website. If you order by 3pm, your order ships the same day, and it gets better… all orders over $50 ship for free.
No matter what type of quilter or sewist you are, be sure to stop by Cotton Candy Fabrics if you find yourself in Connecticut/New York.
Happy stitching and quilting!
Until next time,
Sheri

Please tell your friend that I will definitely make a side trip to her store when I go on my road trip from NM heading to Nova Scotia this summer. I’ve been planning that trip for awhile now. Her store looks marvelous. Oh, how I wish I could take that class with you on making the shoes. Ah well, perhaps another class.
