Benefit of using solid fabrics when foundation paper piecing:
I love working with solid fabrics for foundation paper piecing (FPP) because they make the whole process feel a little more relaxing. There’s no “right” or “wrong” side to fuss over, which means fewer mistakes and more confident stitching. Solids also give the blocks that sharp, modern graphic look I adore. Every petal, leaf, and curve stands out beautifully without any texture competing for attention.

Once I had the first few blocks made with these beautiful solid fabrics on my design wall, I was in love. Solids give Wildflower Remix an almost poster-like quality: bold, high-contrast, and super modern. The clean lines of the FPP quilt top shine even brighter, and the petals feel extra crisp without any texture or variation competing for attention.
For this version, I kept the flower colors similar to the Grunge Wildflower Remix version you may have seen: warm yellows and oranges, magentas, pinks, blue (instead of purple), and a bright green for the leaves. But this time, I auditioned those bright, bold colors on two different backgrounds: a soft cream and a rich brown.
On the cream background, the colors feel fresh, bright, and almost sunlit.
On the brown background, everything becomes moody, warm, and a little vintage-modern in the best way. The blooms absolutely glow.

EVERY curve and petal in this flower quilt pattern is Foundation Paper Pieced (NO curved piecing or applique required). With just 12 quilt blocks (each measuring 20½” x 15½”), you can make a beautiful Throw quilt or a few wall hangings/runners. If you want to make a larger Twin or Queen size quilt, an optional add-on Wildflower Remix Border Pattern (also entirely foundation paper pieced) adds the perfect curvy frame.
If you love a super clean and modern aesthetic or you’re looking for something that makes FPP simpler and less fussy, Solids are a fantastic option for Wildflower Remix. They make your blocks look sharp and intentional and they’re easy to work with, especially for newer paper piecers.
