Art Quilts on Display: Hang a Quilt Day 2025

Modern Art Quilts hanging outdoors under a tent

Despite a little drizzle early in the day, Hang a Quilt Day 2025, a display of modern art quilts, was a great success and turned out to be a fun community event! This was the third year we hosted our mini outdoor quilt show in Greater New Haven, Connecticut, and even with the slight wet hiccup at the beginning of the day, it didn’t stop the show. By the time our first visitors arrived, the rain had cleared, the skies brightened, and our quilts were ready to share with the community.

If you weren’t able to make it to our show, we’ve got you covered! Scroll down for a few favorite photos from the day along with a video tour.

A Celebration of Contemporary and Modern Art Quilts

This annual event has become something we look forward to all year. Christina Blais, Anne Flitcraft, and I (Sheri Cifaldi-Morrill), transformed a quiet front yard into an open-air quilt gallery—inviting neighbors, quilters, and art lovers to experience quilts in the wild, under tents.

This year’s display included:
• modern quilts featuring bold color and graphic design
• foundation paper pieced quilts
• raw-edge applique quilts
• woven potholders that complemented art quilts
• brand new, never before seen quilts

Whether visitors were longtime quilt enthusiasts or stumbled upon us during a morning walk, everyone left with a little extra inspiration and new ideas about what quilts are.

Why We Hang Art Quilts Outside

There’s something magical about seeing quilts outdoors—sunlight filtering through the layers, movement from the wind, and the natural textures of trees and stone as a backdrop. It’s a reminder that quilts aren’t just for beds or walls—they’re pieces of art meant to be shared and experienced.

As always, we invited folks to ask questions, take their time exploring and enjoy our art.
