week 46 + 47 recap: 365 days of handwork challenge

Here is a recap of Weeks 46 + 47 of my 365 days of handwork challenge (Monday, February 19 –Sunday, March 4, 2018): {If you missed it, you can read about the challenge here.}

Let’s be real…. life sometimes gets in the way of quilting plans. I was a bit of a slacker the last two weeks with my 365 days of handwork challenge. I have what I think is a pretty good excuse. I was traveling to California to attend and teach at QuiltCon 2018 and then took some time for a road trip to visit family in northern New Mexico. I taught needle turn applique and a big bag of handwork projects came with me. I did get some handwork done, but it was sporadic and I didn’t do a very good job at documenting it regularly.

I do have some photos to share. Lots more from QuiltCon in blog posts to come once I’m caught up on what I missed while I was away. We’re supposed to get about a foot of snow tomorrow in Connecticut—sounds like a perfect “catch up” day!

Day 314: Before leaving for the West Coast, I did manage to get the binding on one of these oversized coasters complete!
Traveling to the West Coast. I did manage to get some handwork done on the plane and while traveling, but completely forgot to document it.
Part of the reason for not having enough time for handwork. I had the pleasure of working with these lovely and talented ladies at QuiltCon 2018 in Pasadena. I shared my technique for Hawaiian Applique Made Modern. Look at all of the variations!
The next day, I taught Intermediate Paper Piecing to this great group. I think we conquered some foundation paper piecing fears!

After QuiltCon, I embarked on a road trip to New Mexico to visit family.

The road trip included an overnight stop in Sedona, AZ. What am amazing place!
Day 323: I did manage to get some English Paper Piecing done without getting too car sick!
We made it to northern New Mexico. What a view!
Day 324: Soaking in the sun in the sun room while appliquing!

Day 325: My finished Aurifil Designer of the Month Block from January 2018. Get the pattern here.
Day 326: Finished up a new English Paper Piecing block. I’m working on samples showcasing my pattern for a full set of letters and numbers.
Day 327: More EPP letters in progress!
Northern New Mexico is amazing. I can’t wait to return! There might be some Southwest inspired patterns in the works!
