If you’ve been looking for a fresh take on the Dragonfly Dance quilt pattern, you’re going to love this one! Becca S, a talented quilter and YouTube creator known as Sew Becca, put her own spin on the design and turned it into a gorgeous mini quilt. Not only did she call it one of her favorite finishes of 2024, but she also showcased it at the Dallas Quilt Show in the Small Contemporary Quilts category—and I’m so excited to share it with you!

Let’s get into it…

A Creative Twist on the Dragonfly Dance Pattern

Becca and a quilting friend both picked up the Dragonfly Dance pattern and made it in their own unique ways. Here’s how she described her inspiration:

“A friend and I both tackled our own version of the Dragonfly Dance quilt pattern. She used a darker background to mimic a starry night sky, and I used a lighter one to mimic a summer blue sky.”

One of the most exciting parts? Becca’s mini quilt made its way into the Dallas Quilt Show! A fellow quilter and friend of Whole Circle Studio, Jamie M., sent me some photos of Becca’s quilt in the show. It was displayed in the Small Contemporary Quilts category, where it had the chance to be admired by fellow quilters and show visitors. Seeing quilts made from my patterns being exhibited and shared at a show is always so much fun to see!

Watch Becca’s Paper Piecing and Quilting Process

Becca shared her experience making the Dragonfly Dance mini quilt on her YouTube channel, Sew Becca, and it’s a great watch if you love seeing quilters’ creative processes in action! In her video, she also shares her Foundation Paper Piecing (FPP) tips. While Becca and I approach FPP in similar ways, we each have our own unique techniques and details in our piecing processes. There’s no single “right” way to do it—you might find it helpful to mix and match tips from both of us to see what works best for you!

I highly recommend checking out Becca’s video featuring Dragonfly Dance and my Foundation Paper Piecing Mini Class for helpful paper piecing tips and tricks:
