These Starry Signs quilt options features many quilter’s favorite blender/basic fabric — Grunge by Moda Fabrics. This fabric line has a rich texture and painterly quality. With its signature layered look, the Grunge fabric may look like a solid from far away, but it’s beauty is the subtle variations in color with an almost hand-brushed feel. This bundle that I curated uses a dark blue base (color=Peacock) with hints of purple, to mimic the mystery of a twilight sky, paired with a beautiful blue (color = Sea) for the constellation lines, clouds, and center stars). I used a warm color palette for the constellations—featuring glowing shades of yellow, gold, rust, and soft coral (colors: Lemon Drop, Sunflower, Curry, Chiffon, Peachy, Elafin, Butterscotch, Yellow Gold, Clementine, Papaya, Papaya Punch, and Salmon) —the result is a dynamic and moody quilt that feels both modern and timeless. The unique texture of Grunge enhances the celestial theme, making it the perfect choice for this project.

The Starry Signs quilt shines in a fresh and playful way with Speckled fabric, designed by Rashida Coleman-Hale for Ruby Star Society and Moda Fabrics. This collection is a favorite among modern quilters for its vibrant, metallic speckles/dots and its ability to add just the right amount of texture and whimsy to any project. For this version, I curated a beautiful rainbow of colors (Berry, Playful, Strawberry, Burnt Orange, Clementine, Sunshine, Citron, Verdant, Icebox, Bright Blue, Lindley Blue, and Witchy) set against a soft light blue background (Polar), accented with white, cloud-like speckles (color = White Gold) and grey/blue constellation lines (color = Soft Blue). The combination feels airy and bright, perfectly capturing a dreamy, celestial vibe while keeping the design modern and approachable. It’s a fun and versatile choice that adds a bright personality to this quilt!

For fans of cool color palettes, this Starry Signs quilt version is a dreamy choice, perfect for a baby or child. It combines the vibrant Speckled and playful Starry fabric collections, both by Ruby Star Society for Moda Fabrics. Designed by Alexia Abegg, the Starry collection adds an extra touch of whimsy with its delicate star prints, bringing even more magic to this celestial design. The constellation stars are made from a curated bundle of cool-toned Speckled fabrics (colors = Icebox, Soft Aqua, Succulent, Storytime, Teal, ,Chambray, Lindley Blue, Bright Blue, Blue Ribbon, Denim, Water Blue, and Turquoise), while the constellation lines and center stars feature Speckled in the soft neutral color Natural. The clouds are extra special, made with Starry fabric (color = Turquoise), adding a sprinkle of stars to the mix. The moon shines bright in Speckled (color = Goldenrod), and the background uses Speckled (color = White Gold) for a subtle shimmer that ties the design together. This combination of textures and cool tones creates a quilt that is both calming and enchanting, ideal for a little one or anyone who loves a modern, soothing color scheme.

SOLID OPTIONS
Solid fabrics are a great choice for the Starry Signs quilt! They give the design a clean, modern look and work well in both dark and light color palettes. Dark tones from Ruby + Bee, Pure Solids, and Kona® Cotton Solids create a bold, night-sky feel, while light tones make the quilt bright and soft—perfect for a baby or child. Solids are easy to work with for Foundation Paper Piecing (you don’t have to worry about the “correct” and “wrong” sides of the fabric). These solids combinations also make the constellations stand out, making them a timeless, yet modern, option for this pattern!
