This month we “travel to” London, England to visit the majestic Tower Bridge.
Back in 1998, I took my first trip outside of the US. It was only the second time I was ever on an airplane. Jason and I had been dating for a little less than a year and we decided to go on an international adventure to England, Scotland, and a quick trip to Paris.
We explored Tower Bridge, a Victorian turreted bridge, as well as the sights around it including the historic Tower of London castle.
Here’s a fun fact about Tower Bridge… Completed in 1894, Tower Bridge was constructed to ease road traffic while maintaining river access to the busy London docks. Built with giant movable roadways that lift up for passing ships. Spanning the Thames River in London, the bridge lifts based on the requests it receives from vessels. During the pandemic, there isn’t as much of a demand for the bridge to lift but during “regular times” Tower Bridge lifts around 800 times a year.
Be sure to visit the official Tower Bridge website for lots more about this awesome structure.
Recommendation for getting into a “London” mood:
If you subscribe to Netflix, be sure to check out Season 3, Episode 3 of Somebody Feed Phil featuring London. I can’t recommend this series enough—it’s one of my favorites! So joyful, funny, heartwarming, and beautifully filmed.
