I’ve decided to start a new challenge.
Over the past year, I’ve fallen deeply in love with handwork. Mostly needle turn appliqué but I enjoy the meditative quality of all hand stitching. (It also makes me feel less guilty watching tv). While most days I already do some handwork, I’m committing to make at least a few stitches by hand EVERY DAY for the next year and will be posting a daily photo on my instagram account (follow me!). Best thing about handwork—it can be done anywhere, including when I travel!

There will still be LOTS of machine work this year too!

I started the challenge on Monday, April 10, 2017. (Why wait until the beginning of the year to start a year long challenge? Carpe diem!).

Here are the daily photos from Week 1 (Monday, April 10–Sunday, April 16, 2017):

Day 1: Monday, April 10, 2017 Finishing binding on a secret mini quilt heading to spring market!
Day 2: Tuesday, April 11, 2017—hand sewing on a label- the finishing touch before photographing and sending my Blue Carolina mini quilt to @the_tattooed_quilter!
Day 3: Wednesday, April 12, 2017 — Basting a new (zombie like) version of my Think Big mini quilt!
Day 4: Thursday, April 13, 2017 — Hand sewing a sleeve on my latest Picnic Petals Quilt … I’ll be shipping it off on a couple of weeks as part of my first shop trunk show!
Day 5: Friday, April 14, 2017 — Burying threads before moving forward on more quilting on my queen size version of Road Work.
Day 6: Saturday, April 15, 2017 — New (secret) applique project underway
Day 7: Sunday, April 16, 2017 — More thread burying of my queen Road Work quilt. For all of the quilting I used 40wt Aurifil thread.
